The new Coen Brothers’ movie, Inside Llewyn Davis has been described as a ‘love letter to 1960s Greenwich Village’. The film follows a down-on-his-luck folk singer (Oscar Isaac) navigating the New York City coffee house scene in 1961. But unlike Dave Van Ronk or Bob Dylan, Davis’ story is not one of success.
Who cares. We LOVE a loser! And Llewyn (what a great name btw) is a rather lovable one – especially when he has a ginger cat, a friend like Justin Timberlake and some fabulously dark, broody facial hair. There’s also a mega soundtrack – which is sure to win awards at the upcoming Academy Awards.
With a story loosely based on the life of folk singer, Dave Van Ronk and most of the songs recorded live, this is our favourite Coen Brothers’ movie to date. Check it out.
