David O Russell brings us one of the most enjoyable US films in years, An American Hustle. The story is based on the Abscam scandal in the 70s and is centred around Irving Rosenfeld, played by Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper’s FBI character who conjure up an elaborate plot to catch out corrupt congressmen and politicians.
It’s a long watch, around two and half hours, but we were captivated by the extraordinary cast – which also includes Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Jennifer Lawrence (as Bale’s jaded wife)- and by the OTT hair styles of Bale (toupéed brush-over) and Cooper (tightly permed locks) as well as matching facial hair.
Miss it if you dare.
