Review: Bear Face Beard Oils

Receiving a batch of beard oils from Bear Face Beard Oils was bittersweet. If only I had a long, flowing beard to pamper, preen and lavish in delectable smelling beard oils from new kids on the block, Bear Face of Brighton. Instead, my hairless chin did without and I enlisted the help of two hirsute friends – Philip and Gavin – to review the elixirs instead.

We’ll get down to the nitty gritty of Bear Face Beard Oils when we interview the three Bear Face founders – Jimmy, Matt and Em – in the coming weeks.  In the meantime we couldn’t resist presenting their oil range, which consists of 3 uniquely fragranced oils – Spicy, Fresh and Sweet, and a fragrance-free version called Bare.

Philip chose the Sweet and Fresh, and Gavin took the Spicy and Bare varieties. Here’s what they had to say:

Philip – the short beard

My beard is a little sparse and usually feels quite dry.  It’s not an impressive bushy beard by any means, but I’ve grown to quite like it since I first grew it twenty-five years ago.  I’m not all that hands on when it comes to looking after it to be honest.

I was really pleased when I was asked to try out a couple of beard oils and didn’t hesitate to give them a try. The Bear Face oils arrived in small brown bottles in tidy cotton pouches – very cool.

I chose the Sweet beard oil to try first and it felt really nice as I applied it. It also had a fabulous scent – a lovely vanilla-based aroma. I wondered why I hadn’t been using products like this for years.  My beard felt nicely lubricated without feeling greasy and the lovely aroma lasted for hours.The Fresh beard oil is also great, with a fruity aroma (not a huge surprise, given that it contains apricot and grapefruit).

I’ll continue to use Bear Face Beard Oils to make my beard strong like a bear and soft as an otter’s pocket (their words not mine, but they are spot on).  Try some today.

Gavin – the medium/full beard

BR: How would you describe your beard?

G: In a short phrase? Big, stiff and multicoloured.

BR:Is this the first time you’ve used beard oil?

G: Yes, previously I’ve only moisturised.

BR: What was your initial reaction to the two oils you tested? Did you like the smell?

G: Good. The Spicy Bear Face is really pleasant. Warm. It puts a smile in your beard. The Bare Beard oil just felt good.

BR: How was the texture once it was on your beard?

G: It really softens the hair, and makes the beard luxurious.

BR: Does it hydrate the skin as well as the beard?

G: Yes, I look 10 years younger!

BR: What did you think of the packaging?

G: Looks as good in the bathroom as it feels on my face.

BR: Have you noticed any significant changes to your beard since using your Bear Face products?

G: Yes, it’s now a big, luxurious, scented masterpiece. My wife loves it.

BR: Would you recommend this product to your hirsute friends?

G: No. Way. It’s mine.
