UK based Varsity Beard was founded in 2014 to provide a high quality range of beard grooming products for the modern man. It’s signature product, Summer Solstice – a deeply nourishing and controlling beard balm that gives confident hold and exudes a subtle masculine scent –  is made to order in Oxfordshire. It contains a unique blend of ingredients that are not currently available in any other beard product. With their new beard oil due to launch any day now, Varsity’s simple yet responsible approach to beard care is – in their own words – sustainabeardity!

Never one to mix his words, we asked our resident product tester, Graeme Fowler to test and review Summer Solstice Balm and find out if it produced a softer, more manageable beard with that all important subtle masculine scent.

Over to you Foxy….

Having a hairy face has many benefits, one of which is that kind people send you products to try. I was delighted when the Postman delivered a little tin of Varsity Beard Balm – an argan based oil called Summer Solstice.

As soon as I took off the lid Mrs F said, “Wow, that smells lovely”  and even I  (with my large hooter but poor sense of smell) concurred.

I tried the same test as I always do. Use the product for three days, then use nothing for three days and repeat the process. A pea sized ball was rolled in the palm of my hands and applied. On first application I immediately noticed it was not a greasy balm, if anything, drier than other balms I have tried and a lot drier than any beard oil. This proved to be a plus.

Not only was my beard grease-free but as a bloke who often finds himself playing with his beard, it meant my hands weren’t oily (nor was anything else I touched, like my phone for example).

Summer Solstice beard balm is a very welcome addition to my collection. Having other products gives me lots of choice, but I must say I REALLY like this balm. All that remains is for me to try their other products.

Anyone seen the postman…?
