Let’s talk about Californian artist, screen printer, skateboarder and beard owner; Chad Eaton.

Creating art under the pseudonym of ‘Timber’, Chad has spent the last eight years producing gorgeous illustrations featuring a series of bearded characters, with particular emphasis on lumberjacks. As a printmaker, he sells his own merchandise on Etsy where (and I know it’s only September) I’ve just ordered my limited edition signed calendar.

Timber is also an advocate for clothing brand Element and for his next project, ‘Element X Timber’; he spent 400 hours producing a print featuring all of his characters in one huge bar scene.

“I started from a little thumbnail and it got a little bit bigger and a little bit more refined. It took me around 400 hours to fill in and 5 versions to orchestrate all of what’s going on inside of it.

There’s a bunch of little stories going on; there’s raccoons stealing alcohol. There’s the traders who are my villains peering in through the windows they’re about to do something to the inside of this bar but I’m planning on drawing an exterior shot of this where they’re surrounding the place. I can’t seem to make anything without adding a story to it”

And if you want to see him in action, here is a lovely clip of Timber creating a mural at Faces & Laces in 2011. Enjoy!
