The origin of the name Barbados comes from the Portugese/Spainsh word both meaning the Bearded ones.
There are three theories as to what “bearded” refers to: the roots of the bearded fig-tree indigenous to the island; the allegedly bearded Caribs once inhabiting the island; or to the foam spraying over the outlying reefs giving the impression of a beard.
So with its consistent Summer all year round climate, laid back attitude and the obvious calling of the beards, I made my way over to the beautiful Caribbean island to immerse myself in its culture, climate and facial hair.
